Daegu (South Korea): Double-amputee sprinter Oscar Pistorius and his 4x400-meter relay teammates from South Africa qualified for the final at the world championships on Thursday.
Pistorius ran the opening leg of the race. South Africa finished third in the first heat, crossing in 2 minutes, 59.21 seconds for a national record. The United States finished first in the heat in 2:58.82 and Jamaica was second in 2:59.13.
Pistorius, who had his legs amupted when he was a baby, is competing at the world championships for the first time. He reached the semifinals in the individual 400, but couldn`t get into the final.
The 4x400 final is scheduled for Friday.
