Pistorius challenges bail conditions; wants to travel abroad
Zeenews Sports Bureau
Pretoria: Having already been granted bail on February 22 after paying a bond of one million rand (over $100,000), Oscar Pistorius, accused of `premeditated murder` after shooting his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine`s Day, wants his bail conditions relaxed as he wants to travel abroad.
Pistorius claims he shot Reeva thinking she was an intruder while the State holds that it was murder and the case will be heard starting June. But until those proceedings are completed and a verdict upon his guilt isn`t reached, his bail conditions prohibit the 26 year-old `Blade Runner` from traveling abroad among other things.
ENCA news reported that The South African Paralympic star`s defense team would ask for his ban on foreign travel to be lifted, along with mandatory drug and alcohol tests, arguing that the athlete is definitely not a flight risk. They believe he should be allowed to travel freely with police permission.
But Pistorius` agent Peet Van Zyl was unaware about his client`s desire to travel internationally, especially given the fact that he had pulled out of all overseas competitions and hadn`t yet gotten back to training.
Meanwhile, the deceased model, Reeva Steenkamp`s family is considering legal action against the sprinter. A civil claim is said to be the proposed action against him, but a firm decision hasn`t yet been taken.
