Pistorius has no desire to leave South Africa despite winning right to travel abroad

London: Oscar Pistorius’ uncle has claimed the double-amputee Olympic sprinter has no intentions to leave South Africa despite winning the right to travel in an appeal against his bail conditions.

The Blade Runner, who is charged with murdering his girlfriend, could now go abroad for international competitions after the legal victory, but his uncle Arnold Pistorius said the athlete is not ready yet. Arnold said Pistorius cannot go anywhere in the world right now because anyone will recognise him, so he doesn`t want to go anywhere and he doesn`t want to go into public life because he is absolutely not ready to do that. Pistorius has denied murdering his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp and his uncle Arnold claimed his nephew had challenged his strict bail conditions, which were likened to house arrest by his lawyers, because he doesn’t want to be treated as a criminal. The 26-year-old`s lawyers earlier told North Guateng High Court that while the Olympic and Paralympic athlete had no immediate plans to compete, he might in time need to run at track meets again to continue earning a living. Judge Bert Bam agreed to relax Pistorius` bail restrictions, but said he must provide authorities with his travel plans at least a week before he leaves the country and he must also return his passport to the court within 24 hours of returning to South Africa. Pistorius was released on bail on February 22, a week after he was arrested on charges of murdering girlfriend Steenkamp. ANI
