Prasanna, Manisha move into finals of AICS-TT tourney

Patna: Second seed Prasanna Pareekh of RSB Vadodara and Manisha Sharma of Central Secretariat- Delhi stormed into Women`s single finals on the penultimate day of the All India Central Services Table Tennis Championship here at the Secretariat Badminton Hall.

In the semi-final encounter, Manisha defeated top seeded Gurvinder Kaur of RSB Chandigarh 8-11,11-5, 11-3, and 11-3 in the best of seven-set match while Prasanna beat Mantu Murmu of RSB Kolkata by 11-7, 6-11, 12-10, 11-5 and 11-6 to move into the final.

In the Men`s singles, Kaushik Dey Sarkar, Devdoot Chatterjee and Sourav Sengupta (all of RSB Kolkata) and Chintan Ojha (RSB Indore) went to the semi-final stage.

In a photo finish in the men`s quarter final match, Kaushik Dey Sarkar (Kolkata) upset top seed K Srivatsa of RSB Chennai 11-8, 11-13, 13-11, 2-11, 11-8, 11-13 and 11-8, Devdut Chatterjee (Kolkata) beat Rupesh Kumar Singh (RSB Indore) 11-6, 14-12, 11-7, 4-11 and 11-9.

In another match, Kolakata`s Sourav Sengupta managed to trounce Mihir Gandhi of Vadodara 9-11, 11-7, 2-11, 11-7, 5-11, 11-6 and 11-7 in fighting match, while Chinton Ojha of Indore outclassed Amland Patra of Kolkata in a straight set 11-6, 11-6, 11-4 and 12-10 to enter into the semi-finals.

Jayanta Modol and S Mittra (RSB,Kolkata) bagged the men`s veteran doubles title defeating N S Rawat and Ghanshyam Singh (Central Secretariat, Delhi) 11-2, 9-11, 11-5 and 11-7.

D. Murmu and S. Mittra (RSB,Kolkata) lifted women`s double crown tharshing Raj Guru and D J Pandya (Gujrat Secretariat) in a straight set 11-2, 11-8 and 11-6 in the final.
