Punish coaches and Federation officials too for doping: CSI
New Delhi: Banning only the cheat athletes is not enough to discourage doping among spokespersons, ‘Clean Sports India’ said on Monday demanding punishment for the coaches and the officials of the Federations as well.
A total of 18 sportspersons, including several India’s CWG team members such as wrestler Rajiv Tomar and swimmer Richa Mishra, have flunked dope test with barely a month to go for the Games.
CSI said authorities such as Wrestling Federation of India, the Swimming Federation of India and the Athletics Federation of India should be held accountable for the gaffe.
“It is time the Government of India looked into the whole aspect of doping in Indian sports and took stringent action against the officials and coaches responsible for this mess,” a CSI statement said.
“The real culprits are coaches and officials who are responsible for their training. Hence, the coaches and the federation officials must be held responsible.”
