Queen`s Baton Relay arrives in UP

Bareilly: Queen`s Baton Relay for the October 3-14 Commonwealth Games arrived in Uttar Pradesh after finishing its Uttarakhand leg.

President of Uttarakhand Olympic Association Rajiv Mehta handed over the Baton to his Uttar Pradesh counterpart Anandeshwar Pandey at a function where sports secretary Lalit Varma was also present.

The Baton received a rousing welcome with nearly one lakh children participating in the ceremony.

The Baton later reached Bareilly city, where a function was held in the evening.

Tomorrow the QBR will reach the state capital Lucknow, from where it will leave for Rae Bareli and Amethi on July 10.

The QBR, which was launched by Queen Elizabeth II in London last October in presence of Indian President Pratibha Patil, is scheduled to reach its final destination Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi on October 3 when the Games would be opened.
