Ron Washington steps down as Rangers manager

Washington: Ron Washington on Friday resigned as manager of the Texas Rangers, citing "personal matters".

"I have submitted my resignation from the job I love -- managing the Rangers -- to devote my full attention to addressing an off-the-field personal matter," Washington said.

"As painful as it is, stepping away is what`s best for me, my family."

Washington had led the club since the start of the 2007 season.

He guided the Rangers to a 53-87 record in 2014, the worst record in any of his more than seven seasons as the manager.

Tim Bogar has been appointed interim manager for the remainder of the season.
