Doha: Russia set a new world record in the men`s 4x50m medley relay in the first event of the second day of the World Short-Course Swimming Championships in Doha.

A blistering freestyle leg of 20.62secs by Evgeny Sedov brought the Russian quartet home in 1:32.78 to cut 0.87secs off the mark set by Italy at last year`s European Short-Course Championships in Herning, Denmark.

It is the fourth world record of the meet after Mireia Belmonte`s pioneering efforts in the 200m butterfly and 400m individual medley which was followed by the efforts of the Netherlands women`s 4x200m freestyle relay in the final event of the first day.
