Rajkot: Over 700 swimmers from all over the country will participate in the Senior National Aquatic Championship to be held in October.

The five-day tournament would commence from October 28, officials said.

"The event would be organised jointly by Swimming Federation of India (SFI) and Gujarat State Aquatic Association and hosted jointly by Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) and Rajkot District Swimming Association (RDSA)," RMC commissioner Vijay Nehra said.

"The tournament will begin from October 28 and all the necessary preparations have been made. It will be held at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Swimming pool at Kothariya road here," he said.

The last time such tournament was held in Gujarat was in 1986, Nehra added.

A total of 40 events will be held in both men and women category, General Secretary, SFI, Kamlesh Nanavati, said.

"The event is important for swimmers who are willing to be part of Indian swimming team for the Summer Olympic to be held in Brazil next year," he added.
