Shahabad, MPHA in semis of All-India women`s tourney

Bhopal: Shahabad Academy and Madhya Pradesh
Hockey Academy entered the semi-final of the All-India Women`s
Tournament being held at the Aishbagh Stadium here.

Shahabad Academy defeated Orissa XI 3-2 in a keenly
contested match, while MPHA beat Uttar Pradesh XI 2-1 to seal
their berths in the final-four round.

Poonam Barla of Orissa scored the first goal against
Shahabad Academy in the 16th minute, but just four minutes
later Navjot Kaur hit a brilliant field goal to equalise.

Sandeep Kaur scored another goal for Shahabad Academy
through a penalty corner just before the first-half. Shahabad
Academy was leading 2-1 during the half-time.

In the second-half, Lilima Minj of Orissa levelled the
score in the 52nd minute after converting a penalty corner.
However, in the 57th minute Navjot scored her second goal
and put the match in her team`s kitty.

In the other match, Jamila Bano and Vartika Singh
converted two penalty corners in the sixth and 16th minutes
respectively for MPHA.

However, Uttar Pradesh played an attacking game in the
second half and reduced the margin to 2-1 by converting a
penalty corner through Aarti in the 62nd minute.
