Shocking 'facilities' for differently-abled athletes at National Para-Athletic Championships!

New Delhi: As 15th National Para-Athletic Championships commenced in the national capital on Saturday, a shocking disclosure about the substandard facilities provided to the differently-abled athletes reveals the sorry state of affairs in sports administration.

Unfortunately, the authorities have provided them accommodation at an unfurnished building in Ghaziabad.

“Not at all satisfied with arrangements, no bathrooms, we've been here for 3 days and rooms haven't been cleaned yet”, a participating athlete was quoted saying by ANI.

“We are facing difficulty in using washrooms and bathrooms, lack of water ,no fans, lot of mosquitoes”, he added.

As the shocking images and reports of the facilities provided to the athletes emerged, Sports minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday immediately ordered a tailed report regarding the organisation of the National Para-Athletic Games from Paralympic Committee of India.

The championships, comprising of two events - the National Para Powerlifting Championships (March 14 and 15) and National Athletics Championships (March 20 to 22), are being held at the Weightlifting Auditorium in Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium Complex and Janhit Para Sports Grounds (Madhuban, Bapudham) in Ghaziabad respectively

Over 700 differently-abled athletes are participating in these championships.
