New Delhi: The September 13 WWE Smackdown Live show was the first since Backlash.

It opened with WWE Champion AJ Styles telling the WWE Universe that he's the 'champ that runs the camp'. With Styles in full flow, John Cena's music played and the superstar entered the ring. Cena said Styles had something that belonged to him. Cena wanted to win back the title to tie Ric Flair's record of 16. With the duo in the ring, Dean Ambrose decided to show up and had a show down with Styles.

Cena interjected and Ambrose hit back, terming the former champion a part-timer. Shane McMohan too joined the trio in the ring and announced a triple threat match between them at No Mercy. He also set up a tag team match between Cena-Ambrose vs Style and partner of his preference as SmackDown Live's main event for the night.

1. The Usos beat the Hype Bros in a Backlash rematch

The Miz and Maryse entered the ring to talk about his win over Dolph Ziggler at Backlash. Ziggler interrupted the duo and challenged Miz to a re-match with “no gimmicks". Daniel Bryan came down and informed Miz that Ziggler would get another shot at the title. However, a defiant Miz said he would only defend the title after re-negotiating his contract.

Styles approached Baron Corbin to partner him for the tag team match. However, the Lone Wolf was in no mood to accept the offer. Corbin and Apollo Crews were set for a Backlash rematch. But Corbin ambushed Crews before the match began. Jack Swagger walked to the ring to confront Baron Corbin, who left.

2. Fatal 5-Way No. 1 Contender Match: Alexa Bliss beat Nikki Bella, Carmella, Naomi and Natalya

Shane McMahon and new Smackdown Tag Team Champions Rhyno and Heath Slater were in the ring for Slater’s contract signing. After a brief exchange of words, The Ascension interrupted the proceedings and challenged the tag team champions to a title match. Shane gave in to the demand and set up the match.

3. Smackdown Tag Team Championship Match: Heath Slater and Rhyno (c) beat The Ascension.

With time running out, AJ Styles had no tag team partner for the main event when Daniel Bryan brought James Ellsworth him. James once made an appearance on Raw and was demolished by Braun Strowman.

Randy Orton made his way to the ring and called out Bray Wyatt to step in there with him. Wyatt appeared on the video screen and then showed up behind Orton outside the ring. Orton dared him to step in the ring. When the lights went off and then came on, Erick Rowan suddenly appeared in the ring and attacked Orton from behind. However, Orton recovered and delivered an RKO.

4. John Cena and Dean Ambrose beat The Miz and AJ Styles

Just as James Ellsworth came down to the ring to partner Styles for the main event, he was attacked by Miz. The latter replaced him to partner Styles for the tag team match.

There was one final twist before the show ended. After their win, Ambrose hit Cena with Dirty Deeds
