SSCB men, Manipur women dominate National Games weightlifting

winning gold medals in different categories of the 34th

Board men and Manipur women dominated the weightlifting events
winning gold medals in different categories of the 34th
National Games at Tata Auditorium here on Wednesday.
Continuing his winning streak on the second day, CWG gold
medalist K Ravi Kumar of the SSCB set a new Games record in
Clean and Jerk in the 69kg event.
Ravi Kumar lifted a total of 286kg. He also topped the
chart with a 120kg lift in the snatch.
Pasam Rambabu, a gold medalist in the Inter-state
weightlifting championship held in Udaipur, finished second
with a total lift of 263kg.
The other competitor Gaurav Dubey of Uttar Pradesh did
not turn up for the competition as he failed to meet the
required weight.
Earlier, S Deva Kumar of SSCB made a National Games
record in the 56kg category, lifting 122 kg in snatch moments
after N Sunil Kumar of Tamil Nadu lifted 121kg in the same
event yesterday.
The previous record was held by M Arun of Tamil Nadu, who
had lifted 120kg in snatch at Imphal in February, 1999.
In the women`s 58kg competition, M Sunibala Devi
(Manipur) clinched the gold with a total lift of 180kg
including snatch 78kg and clean and jerk 102kg.
Sunibala Devi was closely followed by host Jharkhand`s
Premeshori Devi, who lifted 80kg in snatch and 99kg in clean
and jerk to accumulate total 179kg.
Karnataka`s Chandra Shouri D, with a total lift of 176kg,
stood third. She lifted 79kg in snatch and 97kg in clean and
jerk.
Manipur girls H Shaya Devi won the gold in 53kg category
while her teammate Kh. Sanjita Chanu bagged the silver in the
48kg category.
