State incentive for Olympic-bound Karmakar

Kolkata: London Olympics-bound Bengal shooter Joydeep Karmakar got a boost from the West Bengal Sports Council, which on Monday awarded him Rs one lakh in recognition of his selection as a member of the 11-member Indian shooting contingent.

Karmakar is the first shooter from the state to represent at the quadrennial extravaganza since Bhagirathi Samai in Los Angeles 1984.

State Sports Minister Madan Mitra today said hoped that the 32-year-old would be able to achieve his target in the London Olympics.

Karmakar had won a silver in the 2010 World Championship.
