Moscow: Russia`s two-time world open water swimming champion Vladimir Dyatchin announced his retirement Thursday after being banned for two years for doping.
Russia`s Anti-Doping Agency RUSADA on Thursday banned the swimmer from July 4, 2014 and the 32-year-old later confirmed his retirement.
Dyatchin won gold in the 10km open water swimming at the world championships in 2003 and 2007.
In 2002 he also won European Championships gold in the same discipline.
Dyatchin was temporarily suspended last July after samples taken at Russian nationals showed the presence of an unnamed prohibited substance.
Dyatchin later confirmed his retirement.
"Of course I will never compete again," the R-Sport agency quoted Dyatchin as saying.
"From now on I will concentrate completely on my work as a swimming competitions organiser."
