Patna: The Indian captain Mamata Pujari tonight said the team spirit was the key behind the stellar performance of her squad members who lifted the first Women`s World Cup Kabaddi championship defeating Iran in the final at the Patalipura sports complex here.
"All of us combined together and played very well to lift the Kabaddi world cup for the country. I congratulate all my team members," she told reporters after post-match presentation.
"Actually we wanted to play better that what we did, but we are happy that our performance just proved to be adequate for the title," Pujari said.
The Indian team was thoroughly prepared for the tournament and committed to win the women world cup Kabaddi championship to bring cheer to the country, she said.
One the other hand, the Iranian team which lost to India in a keenly-contested final by 25-19 did not appear to be too disappointed with the result as their manager Soghra Shirvee said that the runners up title was a good result.
Back home in Iran, Kabaddi has become a popular game with the people and the praiseworthy performance by our team will held popularise the game among the masses, she said.
The International Kabaddi Federation president Janardan Singh Gehlot lauded the organizers for successful conduct of the four-day women world cup Kabaddi championship and said that the growing public support across the continents will sure help its inclusion in the Olympics in the long run.
