Colombo: Sri Lankan cricketer Tillakaratne Dilshan has opted to support Mahinda Rajapaksa in the January 8 presidential election.
Rajapaksa's campaign office said that Dilshan met the president today with a group of youth to extend support to him.
38-year-old former national cricket captain, who will appear in the 2015 Cricket World Cup, has already appeared in television commercials in support of Rajapaksa.
Rajapaksa faces a stiff challenge from the main opposition rival Maithripala Sirisena.
His former Health Minister, Sirisena has caused a dent in Rajapaksa's Freedom Party with several defectors joining him.
