TTFI amends its constitution in tune with Sports Code

Following the Sports Ministry`s directive asking all NSFs to fall in line with the Sports Code, the Table Tennis Federation of India has amended its constitution.

New Delhi: Following the Sports Ministry`s directive asking all NSFs to fall in line with the Sports Code, the Table Tennis Federation of India has amended its constitution by incorporating the provisions with regard to age and tenure.
In a `special` general body meeting convened on Wednesday, the Federation passed a unanimous resolution to adopt the same. The decision has been after the Ministry sent a letter to all the National Sports Federations, asking them to revise their constitution in consonance with the Sports code by the end of this month, failing which their recognition by the Government could be impacted. "Yesterday, we had held a special general body meeting to amend our constitution. We have unanimously decided to incorporate provisions related to age and tenure as given in the sports code," TTFI general secretary Dhanraj Choudhary said. The Sports Code prescribes tenure guidelines for the President and other office bearers of the federation to period of 12 years (three tenures of four years each). Also, it sets the age bar of 70 years for the members to contest elections. "We had no issues in accepting provisions of the sports code. We feel there is a merit in these guidelines that is why government has asked to amend our constitution," he said. Choudhary added that an amended copy of the constitution would be sent to the sports ministry as well as to the office of the Registrar of Societies in a couple of days time. The Federation will go into elections in March and will see the incumbent TTFI president and INLD MLA Ajay Singh Chautala ending his 12 year-run, following its amended constitution. Meanwhile, Chautala scion`s position in the Federation might have also come under scrutiny after he was convicted by a city court on Wednesday in a corruption case regarding illegal recruitment of junior teachers in Haryana.
