New Delhi: Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has backed Indian Prime Minister's move to demonetise Rs 500 and 1000 notes to curb correction.

Sehwag, who is known to take a stand on social issues has asked the countrymen to be patient while standing in queues to withdraw money from banks. The Delhi batsman reminded fans of martyr Lance Naik Hanamanthappa, who surivived for six days under 35 feet of snow in Siachen glacier to be rescued.

On his Twitter accounrt, Viru wrote, "Shaheed Hanumanthappa waited 6days,35ft under snow,in-45°C,in hope of being rescued. Surely,we can wait few hrs in line to rescue Our Nation."

After being rescued, the soldier of 19 Madras Regiment was flown to Delhi in an IAF aircraft and was admitted to a hospital, where he eventually passed away.

1,000 and 500 rupee notes will cease to be legal tender from November 8 midnight and those who are in possession of these notes can deposit the notes in their accounts in banks and post offices from 10th of this month to 30th of December this year.

In a special nationwide televised address yesterday evening in New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said those who are unable to deposit the notes within the deadline for some reasons, can change them till 31st of March next year by furnishing ID proof.

He said new currency notes of 500 and 2000 rupees denomination notes to be introduced. He said, RBI has decided to limit the notes with higher value.
