WB government to provide sporting gear to clubs in the state

Kolkata: The West Bengal government will provide sports gear to all clubs across the 341 blocks and 127 municipalities.

"As per the directive of the Chief Minister, it has been decided to provide sports gear to all clubs in the 341 blocks and 127 municipalities in the state," Minister of State for Youth Welfare Arup Biswas, told newsmen.

Stating that Rs 3.82 crore has been allocated for the purpose, he said that Rs 81,700 would be provided for each block and municipality.

The funds would be given to the respective district magistrates who, in turn, would buy the sporting gear for the clubs, he said, adding that that the clubs would not be given any fund directly.

After covering the blocks and the municipalities, the funds would be provided to the clubs under the municipal corporations of Asansol, Chandannagar, Durgapur, Howrah, Kolkata and Siliguri.
