New Delhi: Sahara Group chairman Subroto Roy today heaped praise on rising shuttler P V Sindhu for winning the bronze medal at the recent World Championship and bagging the prestigious Arjuna Award.
"We are proud of the way P V Sindhu carried the tricolor forward in the World Badminton Championships by winning the bronze medal to become the first Indian to win a women`s singles medal," Roy said in a release.
"Today`s recommendation of her name for the prestigious Arjuna Award is another feather in her cap," he added.
Sindhu was recommended for the Arjuna Award today following her bronze medal feat at the World Championship in Guangzhou, China.
The 18-year-old, was fetched by Awadh Warriors for a whopping USD 80,000 in the IBL auction and Roy said they are very satisfied with their decision as they always had faith on the young Hyderabadi, who has achieved the giant-killer tag in world badminton.
"We are extremely proud of our choice when we picked her as the Icon player for our Franchise, Awadhe Warriors. Even before this victory we had faith in her potential and these recent developments have only reinforced our faith in her," he said.
"We are confident that she will continue to win more laurels for the country."
Sindhu had beaten two Chinese -- Yihan Wang and Shixian Wang -- on her run to the semifinal where she lost to Ratchanok Inthanon of Thailand to settle for a bronze medal. Her feat made her only the second Indian to win a bronze in singles at the World Championship.
