Kolkata: Western Railway and Mumbai XI registered contrasting wins to enter the last eight stage of the Coal India 115th Beighton Cup Hockey Tournament here on Tuesday.
Mumbai XI came back from behind to hold SAI (Eastern Zone) in regulation time before scoring prvailing 4-2 win in the tie-breaker.
In the other match of the day at the SAI artificial turf, Western Railway routed Calcutta Port Trust 7-0.
Janman Majhi struck in the 15th minute to give the hosts an early lead. But, Mumbai XI’s Deepak Lakra found the back of the net in the 65th minute to bring the match on even keel.
In the tie-breaker, Mumbai XI scored through Devinder Valmiki, Kanchan, Harjeet Singh and Shashi Topno while Rajin Kandulna and Santosh Baxla found the target for SAI.
Binod Kumar Singh (6th and 57th), Kangugand Suresh (20th and 49th), Hardeep Singh (52nd and 62nd) and Kuldip Singh (59th) struck during Western Railway’s goal rush.
Calcutta Port Trust reduced the margin through Prakash Toppo (32nd and 68th) and Yusuf Bhengra (7th).
