New Delhi: Former hockey captain Ajit Pal Singh on Monday said he was up for the "challenge" after being appointed as India`s Chef-de-Mission for the upcoming London Olympics.
It is for the first time that a sportsperson from India has been appointed to head the country`s contingent in the Olympic Games.
"It`s a great honour for any sportsperson, especially when for the first time any sportsman was being appointed as Chef-de-Mission," said the three-time Olympian.
"It will be a challenging task for me because as a leader of the contingent I will have to look after everything.
"I will try to do my best and come upto the expectations of the countrymen and Indian Olympic Association," added Ajit Pal, who was captain of India`s World Cup-winning team in 1975 in Kuala Lumpur.
Ajit Pal has been a long-standing servant of Indian hockey and has represented the country in three Olympics -- 1968 Mexico City, 1972 Munich and 1976 Montreal -- out of which he won bronze medals in the first two editions of the mega-event.
