India`s Women Triples team emerges
as medal hopes in the eight-nation Invitational Lawn Bowls
tournament here, as they top the table for the first time in
the event.

New Delhi: India`s Women Triples team emerges
as medal hopes in the eight-nation Invitational Lawn Bowls
tournament here, as they top the table for the first time in
the event.
India eves will also feature in the Semi-Final playoffs
in the Singles and the Pairs categories to be played at the
Jawaharlal Nehru stadium tomorrow.
Continuing with their impressive run on the third day of
the tournament, women`s team finished at first, fourth and
sixth position in Triples, Singles and Pairs categories
respectively.
Farazna Khan defeated Donna McCloy of Northern Ireland
14-1, 7-8 in a tie-breaker finish, giving hosts their first
win of the day. Later in the third session, Farazna defeated
England`s Amy Monkhouse 7-11, 11-4 in a tie breaker.
"It was a tough match and I had to fight till the end.
Donna & Amy both gave a good fight and games ended in a tie
breaker. I am happy with my performance and I am looking
forward for other matches," Faranza said about her
performance.
In the Women`s Triples, Tania Choudhury, Pinki and Rupa
Rani Tirkey beat South Africa`s Susan Nel, Susanna Steyn and
Sylvia Burns in straight sets 12-3, 10-8. The trio defeated
Australia`s Sharyn Renshaw, Claire Duke and Beth Quinlan 14-2,
6-9 in a tie breaker finish.
Sunil Bahadur and Mahip Tirkey of India beat Neil Spiers
and Darren Burnett of Scotland in straight sets 8-6, 5-5 in
the Men`s Pairs category.
Indian Men finished seventh in both Singles and Pairs and
last in the Triples categories.
"I am satisfied with teams performance, the team is young
and lack experience as compared to other participating
nations. The facility available here to players will help
India go a long way in Lawn Bowls," India`s coach Richard Gale
said.
