Minneapolis: One worker died and another was seriously injured on Wednesday after falling while working on the roof of the new Minnesota Vikings Stadium in Minneapolis, the NFL team said.
"Today is an extremely sad day for the Minnesota Vikings organization and the entire stadium team," the Vikings said in a statement.
"Our sincere thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the individual who passed away, the worker who remains hospitalized, and the more than 1,000 dedicated construction workers who are on the site every day and are also affected by this accident."
Construction project officials said during a media briefing that the man who died fell 50 feet from the roof into a snow gutter. The other was injured on the roof.
The incident brought work on the $1 billion downtown stadium to a halt. Work on the facility, expected to open in time for the 2016 NFL season, passed the halfway mark last month.
