Jalandhar: Jalandhar, the sports hub of Punjab, will witness another triple header, as the Wave World Kabaddi League (WKL) sweeps through the city in the next series of matches at the Surjeet Singh Stadium Sep 19-21.
A city renowned for its rich legacy in Indian sports, Jalandhar has produced numerous top class Indian sportspersons across different disciplines ranging from hockey to athletics to cricket. Now Jalandhar will see a thrilling display of the indigenous sport of kabaddi which has seen a wave of popularity through the cities it has touched during the WKL this season.
After six successful weekends in five different cities across two continents in spectacular venues like O2 Arena in London, LG Arena in Birmingham, the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi and Guru Nanak Stadium in Ludhiana and Rajindra College, Bathinda, the matches arrive in Jalandhar, where they will be held at the Stadium named after India’s legendary hockey full back, Surjeet Singh.
The past five weeks of magic have shown that WKL has been a huge success in each of the cities with both live audiences which have packed the stadia and on TV where the eyeballs and rating have surpassed all sports barring cricket.
“Jalandhar is very close to my heart. I feel proud to flag off the third weekend of the Punjab leg of Wave WKL from my hometown. Wave WKL is a huge platform for showcasing Kabaddi talent across the globe. When it comes to Jalandhar the excitement is doubled as the city has produced many superstars in the different field of sports. The crowd has been ecstatic and we have been getting inquiries about matches here for a long time. And, finally we are here for live action,” said Pargat Singh, commissioner of WKL.
