WTF: World Taekwondo Federation considers rebranding to avoid the obvious confusion

New Delhi: What's in a name? Or in this case, what's in a acronym when it comes to WTF and Taekwondo's governing body?

If reports are to be believed, the governing body of taekwondo is considering itself to rebrand, in a bid to disassociate itself with the commonly used acronym.

World Taekwondo Federation is simply known as WTF. But this oft-used acronym is more popularly known for it's “what the f**k” slang, ever made popularised by the constant use of shorthands.

The WTF secretary general, Hoss Rafaty, told insidethegames that the governing body would look to market itself as World Taekwondo for business and commercial purposes, although there are no current plans to officially change the organisation’s name.

The move is being considered as part of the world governing body's new five-point development roadmap, in which innovating taekwondo events and raising the profile and awareness of the sport is a major aim.

The World Taekwondo Grand Prix and the World Taekwondo World Championships have already been renamed after the matter was discussed at the body’s extraordinary council meeting in Mexico City earlier in December.
