Pak Senate committee to pass privilege motion against Butt

Islamabad: Pakistan`s Senate standing committee on sports will pass a privilege motion against PCB Chairman Ejaz Butt for his "autocratic attitude and failure to run the cricket board affairs properly".

After a meeting yesterday, Ghaffar Qureshi, who heads the committee, said the motion against Butt would be passed shortly as it has already been submitted with the Senate secretariat.

"Butt has used some unparliamentary language against the senators which is unacceptable," he said.

The senators have been at loggerheads with Butt over the payment of dues to a construction company that undertook work on a new enclosure building at the Gaddafi stadium in Lahore where the PCB headquarter is based.

Qureshi said Butt flatly refused to honour an agreement before the Senate standing committee on sports.

Senator Tariq Azeem said Butt tried to make serious allegations against the senators over the issue and this was unacceptable.

"The board owes the company Rs 8.4 million," he said.

Meanwhile the former financial advisor of the board, Muhammad Naeem has also raised his concerns over the financial affairs of the board.

Naeem, who is related to Butt, said on a television show that the board had an annual deficit budget of Rs 1000 million.

"When I left the board it had Rs 2500 million in its account. But they are still spending more on salaries and administrative expenses then required," he said.

"The financial affairs of the board are not being run properly," he stated.
