PCB hopes to convince ICC to allow `banned` Aamir resume domestic training

Islamabad: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly hoping to convince the International Cricket Council (ICC) to allow banned pace bowler Mohammad Aamir to resume domestic cricket training under the supervision of the national coaches.

Aamir was banned for five years for spot fixing in early 2011 and later also served a jail sentence in UK while his teammates Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif were given five-year bans for spot fixing in the fourth Test against England at Lord`s in 2010. According to the Daily Times, a source said that the PCB has hired a British law firm to look into Aamir`s case and prepare a report which has now been sent to the ICC for consideration and discussion, adding that acting chief Najam Sethi would try to convince the board to allow Aamir to resume domestic training under specialised coaches. Meanwhile, Aamir, whose ban technically ends in September 2015, said that he was hopeful the ICC would also look at his case on compassionate grounds given that he has already served time in jail.
