PCB lets off national selector Illyas with a warning

Lahore: The Pakistan Cricket Board`s disciplinary committee has let off national selector Mohammad Illyas with just a reprimand and warning for breaching the code of conduct.

Illyas appeared before the three-member committee on Tuesday in Lahore to defend himself against charges that he violated the code of conduct by speaking on the Shahid Afridi issue and appearing on a television talk show without informing the PCB.

The committee told Illyas a former Test player that he should have sought permission from PCB before appearing in a talk show.

Ilyas said that he felt he had to defend his honour after being subjected to accusations of a personal nature by former national captain Shahid Afridi.

The committee noted that Ilyas had responded to personal comments made against him but had not criticized the PCB, its management, or its policies.

The Committee issued a short order in which it recommended that PCB issue a warning to Ilyas to exercise caution while dealing with the Media in the Future.

The Committee also recommended that PCB lift Ilyas`s suspension.

Afridi who had an ugly conflict with the board after being removed as national team captain for the ODI series in Ireland had accused Illyas of orchestrating a campaign against him in the board because his son-in-law Imran Farhat was dropped from the team during his (Afridi`s) tenure as captain.

The board`s disciplinary committee had fined Afridi 4.5 million rupees for breaching the code of conduct a punishment the all-rounder has not challenged.
