India-NZ ODI to be last in Guwahati Nehru stadium
Guwahati: The forthcoming first one day international match between India and New Zealand could be the last match held in the Nehru Stadium in Guwahati on November 28.
According to Assam Cricket Association (ASA) secretary Bikash Baruah, the match could be the last for the stadium which has hosted 15 international matches so far.
The ACA has built up an exclusive cricket stadium at Borosapra in the outskirts of the city where future matches will be held.
The stadium has attracted criticism as it played host to not only a variety of sports events, including football, but also even mega cultural shows.
Situated in the the heart of the city, traffic snarls is another major factor behind shifting to a new stadium. The exclusive stadium will cater only to cricket, Baruah said.Hectic preparations are on to hold the match on November 28 with pitch curator Sunil Baruah promising a batting wicket.‘‘The pitch will be made of clay and we hope it will be a high-scoring match.’’
