India needs to keep pressure on Oz batsmen: Fletcher
Chennai: Team India coach Duncan Fletcher on Monday said that the key to success during the tour of Australia will be to continue keeping their struggling batsmen out of form.
“As Dhoni said it’s important that we don’t look into their game and concentrate on our game. If we can put in the performance that our side is capable of and if we keep away from injuries then I think we have got a good chance in Australia,” Fletcher said while addressing a press conference along with captain M.S. Dhoni in Chennai.
“But at the end of the day, they have got some good cricketers who are out of form. We must try to keep them out of form and that’s going to be the most critical area,” he added.
Since the Ashes last December, Ricky Ponting has made 320 runs at an average of 23 in eight matches and passed 50 on only two occasions.
Opening batsman Phil Hughes has marginally better numbers of 437 runs at 24.27 from 10 Tests, but boasts a hundred and a half-century.
