Kirsten believes ‘world class champion’ Kallis never got his deserved ‘recognition’

Kirsten believes ‘world class champion’ Kallis never got his deserved ‘recognition’	Wellington: South African coach Gary Kirsten has hailed all rounder Jacques Kallis’ massive contribution to the team, but also believes he hasn’t received the recognition he deserved. Kallis` stats speaks a lot for him as he is Test cricket’s fourth-highest runs scorer behind Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Ricky Ponting, and has a higher average then all of them, at 57.02 over 254 innings.

He has also claimed 274 wickets at 32.51 and it`s difficult to make a case for a more influential all-rounder in world cricket, but Kirsten believes world cricket has yet to give him the recognition he actually deserves.

“But does he get the recognition he deserves? I don`t know. It`s a difficult one to answer. He`s a world-class cricketer, a massive player,” Stuff.co.nz quoted Kirsten, as saying. Kirsten also feels that all great players like Kallis, Tendulkar and Ponting like to be challenged so that they can raise their game and give a befitting reply to their critics.

“With all these great players, as soon as they start getting criticized that they`re not good enough, that`s when they step up. There`s a guy by the name of Ricky Ponting did that not so long ago,” Kirsten said. A pair in the Boxing Day test against Sri Lanka, following a moderate series against Australia in which he could manage 58 runs in four innings had put question marks over his future. “Jacques was criticized that his eyes were going and he got a double hundred in the next game. I think these guys quite like getting spurred on a little bit, say they`re not good enough and it pumps them up even more,” he added.
