Sevilla president hits out at players
Madrid: Sevilla President Jose Maria del Nido has lashed out some of his players for the club`s poor run in the Spanish La Liga football.
Sevilla are currently 12th in the La Liga, when at the start of the season they were expected to challenge for a place in the top four or at least the top six.
The poor season has already cost Marcelino Garcia his job as coach. Although performances looked to have improved since the arrival of Michel Gonzalez, Sevilla slumped to a 0-1 defeat away to relegation haunted Sporting Gijon last weekend.
That display provoked an outburst of anger from Del Nido in the pages of Wednesday`s edition of sports paper Diario AS.
"My frustration with the players is enormous," he raged.
"I am not at all in agreement with the attitude of the team after they conceded the goal in Gijon and that has happened on several occasions previously," added the Sevilla president.
Del Nido criticized the form of winger Jose Antonio Reyes, who returned to the club during the winter transfer window, but said he hoped he would improve in the near future.
"Anyhow there are loads of players who are not giving adequate performances. We have 15 international players in the squad, but many of them are not performing.
"They are not playing as well as they did last season or as well as they play for their countries and we are getting further and further away from achieving our objectives," he fumed.
Sevilla`s next game will not be easy as they entertain FC Barcelona on Saturday.
