Thierry Henry tops Beckham to be highest-paid player in MLSLos Angeles: New York Red Bulls striker Thierry Henry has eclipsed David Beckham as the highest-paid player in Major League Soccer, according to figures released by the players’ union on Friday.

Henry, 34, now tops the salary table with 5.6 million dollars in 2012, while Beckham took a pay cut to stay with the Los Angeles Galaxy this season.

According to Sports 24, the figure for total compensation includes salary and some bonus payments guaranteed over the life of a contract.

France`s all-time leading scorer’s Red Bulls team-mate Rafa Marquez of Mexico, who like Henry joined the team in 2010 is second the table with 4.6 million dollars.

Beckham, who ushered in the era of high-paid foreign imports in MLS when he first signed a five-year contract with the Galaxy in 2007, will make four million dollars in total compensation this season, compared to the 6.5 million dollars per year, which he made during his previous contract.

The 37-year-old midfielder cut a new two-year deal with the Galaxy in January, reportedly rejecting a rich offer from French club Paris Saint-Germain.

Beckham`s team-mate Robbie Keane of Ireland is fourth at 3.4 million dollars, followed by the Galaxy`s Landon Donovan and Toronto FC`s Torsten Frings, both of will earn 2.4 million dollars this season.
