Cowan taking cues from Cook to play spin

Cowan taking cues from Cook to play spinSydney: Australia Test opener Ed Cowan has claimed he has taken notes from England captain Alastair Cook’s successful batting approach against India on their spin-friendly pitches.

Fellow left-handed opening batsman, Cook prospered in India like few before him, scoring three centuries and 562 runs at 80 in England`s 2-1 victory, News.com.au reports.

Cowan said he had watched the India-England Test series just to watch Cook’s technique against spin bowling. Cowan said Cook is a player, who is at the top of his game and someone who is probably not a natural player of spin but found a way to tackle it, adding it was incredibly effective how good the England skipper was on Indian pitches.

The opening batsman said Cook was patient but very rarely did he let the Indian bowlers have long periods with him on strike and always found ways to get off strike. Cowan said that aspect of Cook’s game is something he took note of, and added he will look back at some footage to refresh on that kind of stuff as that`s a good blueprint on how to play India on their own home turf.

Cowan said he would need a much more positive game if he was to survive raging sub-continental pitches and Indian spinners next month.
