# Shikhar Dhawan has become the 13th Indian batsman to post a hundred on Test debut. He has joined Lala Amarnath, Deepak Shodhan, Kripal Singh, Abbas Ali Baig, Hanumant Singh, Gundappa Viswanath, Surinder Amarnath, Mohammad Azharuddin, Praveen Amre, Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag and Suresh Raina.

# Dhawan has become the tenth Indian batsman to register a century in his debut innings. Three Indian batsmen - Lala Amarnath, Abbas Ali Baig and Gundappa Viswanath had registered hundreds in the second innings.

# Dhawan`s 85-ball century is the fastest by a debutant in Tests, surpassing the 93-ball hundred by Dwayne Smith (WI) vs South Africa at Cape Town in 2003-04.

# Gundappa Viswanath`s 137 against Australia at Kanpur in Noovember 1969 was the previous highest by an Indian debutant in Tests.

# Dhawan`s magnificent unbeaten 185 off 168 balls is the highest innings by an Indian debutant and the sixth highest in Tests. Five batsmen have scored double hundreds on Test debut - England`s Tip Foster - 287 against Australia at Sydney in December 1903; South Africa`s Jacques Rudolph`s 222 not out against Bangladesh at Chittagong in April 2003; West Indian, Lawrence Rowe - 214 against N.Zealand at Kingston in February 1972; New Zealand`s Matthew Sinclair - 214 against W.Indies at Wellington in December 1999 and Sri Lanka`s Brendon Kuruppu - 201 not out against N Zealand at Colombo, CCC in April 1987.

# Dhawan has become the fourth Indian batsman after Virender Sehwag (twice), Polly Umrigar and Mohammad Azharuddin to post 100 runs or more between lunch and tea.

# Vijay and Dhawan have added 283 (unbroken) - India`s highest against Australia for the opening wicket, outstripping the 192 between Chetan Chauhan and Sunil Gavaskar in the 1979-80 Mumbai Test.

# The above stand is India`s third highest for the first

# Australia (408) have recorded their second highest total at Mohali, behind the 428 in October 2010.

# Steven Smith (92 off 185 balls) has posted his career-best in Tests, obliterating the 77 against Pakistan at Headingley, Leeds in 2010.

# Smith and Starc were associated in a stand of 97 - Australia`s highest for the eighth wicket against India on Indian soil. The said partnership is Australia`s third highest for the eighth wicket against India.

# Starc`s superb knock is the highest by an Australian number nine batsman against India and the fourth highest overall for Australia. Clem Hill, Jack Gregory and Ray Lindwall had posted hundreds for Australia at this position - all three against England.

# Starc`s innings is the highest score by Australian
number nine batsman or lower since Ray Lindwall`s hundred against England in the 1946-47 Melbourne Test.

# The above knock is the highest by an Australian batsman at this batting position in an away Test. Just two players have registered more than Starc against India at number nine - 173 by Ian Smith at Auckland in 1989-90 and 102 not out by Lance Klusener at Cape town in 1996-97.

# Two Australian players - Smith (92) and Starc (99) - have posted two 90s in the same Test innings against India for the second time - the first occasion being Simon Katich (99) and Damien Martyn (97) at Nagpur in 2004.

# Murali Vijay (83 not out off 181 balls) has posted his third fifty in Tests - his first against Australia.
