IPL teams want BCCI to drop Chennai as venue: Reports
Zeenews Sports Bureau
New Delhi: The IPL teams have reportedly asked the BCCI to drop Chennai as the venue of the IPL matches if the current situations regarding the Sri Lankan Tamils continue.
Earlier, Sri Lanka Cricket Players’ Association had expressed concerns over ongoing attacks against Sri Lankan nationals in Tamil Nadu. They had even indicated that their players might stay away from playing in Chennai.
IPL commissioner and BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla had said that there is no threat to the upcoming mega-tournament, scheduled to commence from April 3.
"There is no threat to the IPL. Matches will take place at the scheduled venues. Till now, we haven`t seen any threat," Shukla had said.
There are eleven players from Sri Lanka participating in the IPL. The more prominent among them being Kumar Sangakkara, Lasith Malinga and Mahela Jayawardene. The attack on Lankan nationals in Chennai seems to have prompted the SLCPA to voice concerns about the safety of its players.
Earlier, Hyderabad was dropped as IPL venue over the Telengana unrest.
