08: 30 AM IST: In another disappointing result for India, in women's mixed doubles, Sania Mirza and her partner Prarthana Thombare lost in the women’s doubles after a marathon match against China’s Shuai Peng-Shuai Zhang. 


8:05 AM IST: Australian Women's 4x100m Freestyle Relay team creates new world record with 3:30.65 timing.


7:27 AM IST: World Record for Hungarian Katinka Hosszu. That was one swimmer show in Women's IM.


7:10 AM IST: Australia`s Mack Horton wins Men`s 400m freestyle beating China`s 2012 champion Sun Yang.


7:05 AM IST: Kosuke Hagino wins Men's 400m Individual Medley gold medal, ahead of American Chase Kalisz and Japanese compatriot Daiya Seto


6:45 AM IST: Sania Mirza and Prarthana Thombare lose 6(6)-7, 7-5, 5-7 to Chinese pair of Shuai Peng and Shuai Zhang in women's doubles first round.


6:35 AM IST: American Venus Williams shocked by Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium in women's singles first round in three sets.


5:40 AM IST: Sania-Prarthana win the second set, 7-5 to force a decider.


5:38 AM IST: As expected Thai Sopita Tanasan won the gold medal with a combined lift of 200 kg, 8 more than second placed Sri Hahyuni Agustiani of Indonesia. Both are 21-year-olds. Japanese veteran Hiromi Miyake (188kg) won the bronze with a stunning third lift.


5:32 AM IST: Not the Dream Team, beat good enough to humiliate China. USA beat China 119-62 in Men's basketball Group A match.


5:26 AM IST: Mirabai failed to register a single lift in clean and jerk and is out of the competition.


5:23 AM IST: It seemed, women's 48kg weightlifting gold medal is already settled with Thailand's Sopita Ranasan lifting a combined weight of 198kg. And Mirabai failed her second lift in clean and jerk too. This time, she was attempting 106 kg.


5:15 AM IST: Mirabai fails her first attempt. 104 kg.


4:55 AM IST: Meanwhile, Sania and Prarthana lost the first set 6(6)-7 to to Chinese pair of Zhang-Peng in Women's doubles.


4:45 AM IST: Vietnam's Thi Huyen Vuong failed to register a single lift in the snatch, and was ousted thus leaving only four competitors effectively for Mirabai to beat in the clean and jerk.


4:35 AM IST: Mirabai sixth at the end of snatch round, 10 kg behind leader Sopita Tanasan of Thailand. The 21-year-old Thai destroyed the field, so far.

Mirabai's entry was 190 kg, as against Sopita's 200.


4:20 AM IST: Sharath Kamal becomes the fourth Indian to make a first-round exit in singles Table Tennis. He lost to Romanian Crisan 8-11, 12-14, 11-9, 6-11, 8-11.


4:18 AM IST: Saikhom Mirabai successfully fails to lift 84kg and her snatch tally stands at 82 kg. Not a good lift.


4:10 AM IST: Saikhom Mirabai successfully lifts 82 kg in her 2nd attempt in snatch in Women's 48kg. Some time coming from the Manipuri.


3:30 AM IST: Women's 48kg weightlifting final coming up. Saikhom Mirabai Chanu is bidding to become first Indian medallist in at Rio 2016.


2:45 AM IST: Emese Szasz of Hunagary defeated Italian Rossella Fiamingo 15-13 to win Women's epee fencing gold medal. Sun Yiwen (CHN) defeated Lauren Rembi (FRA) 15-13 in bronze medal match.


2:13 AM IST: First gold medal for Russia. Beslan Mudranov defeated Yeldos Smetov (KAZ) in the final of Men's 60kg Judo.


01:25 AM IST: Soumyajit Ghosh crashes out of men's singles Table Tennis competition, losing his 1st-round match to Thailand's Padasak 8-11, 6-11, 14-12,6-11, 11-13


12:30 AM IST: First ever Olympics Gold Medal for Vietnam! Xuan Hoang wins Men's 10m Air Pistol. Brazil's Felipe Wu and Pang Wei settled for silver and bronze medals respectively.

Minutes ago, Greg Van Avermaet of Belgium won Men's Road Race gold medal.


12:28 AM IST: Meanwhile, Great Britain's Adam Peaty breaks world record world of 100m breaststroke in heat. That's second world broken on Day 1, after  Kim Woojin's recurve history.


The 29-year-old Olympics debutant will need to do better than a eighth place finish in his favourite 50m event to make the first Games worth remembering.

12:07 AM IST: Jitu eliminated. The Army man could only produced 78.7 after 8 rounds of shooting in what has been a very very tight final, which also has the Olympic legends like Jongoh Jin of South Korea and Pang Wei of China. Jin won the gold medal at 2012 London Games, and was the silver medallist in Beijing 2008, losing to home favourite Wei.

Wei is often considered the heir to Chinese great Yifu Wang, the only male shooter to have won two gold medals 10 metre air pistol.
