Bayern Munich is the most successful German football club. The club collected its first ever Champions League title in 1974. The final was replayed after the first encounter ended in a 1-1 stalemate and the Bavarians easily registered a 4-0 victory.
They went on to complete a hat-trick of titles. However, for over two decades the trophy eluded their cabinet.
The deadlock was finally broken in 2001 when they won the tourney for the first time since it was renamed as UEFA Champions League.

The Spanish club is the most successful in the European football in terms of having won the premier tournament a record nine number of times.
It all started when the tournament came into existence in 1955. In the final played between Real Madrid and French club Stade de Reims, the former emerged victorious 4-3.
Since then, the Los Blancos went on to dominate the tournament for four more years lifting the cup for a record five consecutive years. They won in 1956, 57, 58, 59 and 60.
After a drought of five years, they again brought home the cup in 1966. After the event was renamed UEFA Champions League in 1992, Madrid again went on to win it three more times the last of which came in 2002.

AC Milan was the third club after Real Madrid and SL Benfica to lay their hands at the prestigious trophy in 1963. They won it defeating Benfica in the final played at Wembley Stadium in London. In the process they prevented the Portuguese club from registering a hat-trick of titles.
The Rossoneri had to wait for another six years before they were again crowned the European Champions in 1969. Their wait for a third title continued for two decades before they thrashed Steaua Bucure?ti in the final 4-0 at Camp Nou.
The Italian club last won the tournament in 2007 when they defeated Liverpool in the final.

The first of their Champions League title came in 1977 when they defeated German club Borussia Mönchengladbach 3-1 at Stadio Olimpico in Rome. They became the second English football club after Manchester United to have won the tourney.
They defended their title by beating Belgian club Brugge KV 1-0 at Wembley.
They last won the trophy in 2005 when they defeated AC Milan in a dramatic final that ended in penalty shootout.

In 1992, the European Cup was renamed as UEFA Champions League. Spanish club FC Barcelona defeated Italian club UC Sampdoria in the final to lift the cup for the first time.
They had to wait for another 14 years before the trophy came back to Camp Nou in 2006. Arsenal lost to Blaugrana 1-2 at Stade de France in Paris.
They added two more trophies to their cabinet in 2009 and 2011 defeating Manchester United on both occasions under the tutelage of Joseph Guardiola.
