Tokyo: Japanese ski-jumping prodigy Sara Takanashi promised to seek "revenge" Friday as she returned home after shocking Japan by failing to lift any medal despite her hot favourite status.
The 17-year-old schoolgirl finished fourth in the inaugural Olympic women`s ski-jumping event in Sochi on Tuesday.
"Now I am full of sorry feelings as I could not do my best and produce results," she told reporters at Tokyo`s Narita airport.
"As the World Cup continues, I want to definitely go for revenge there," Takanashi added.
The diminutive Japanese star has won 10 out of 13 events so far contested on the 19-leg World Cup tour this season.
She is bidding to defend her overall World Cup title and has never missed the podium in that competition.
"I have keenly realised my lack of ability," Takanashi said as she was welcomed home by about 100 fans at the arrival lounge.
"I want to polish not only mental but also technical aspects to raise my level more and more," she added.
Germany`s Carina Vogt made history by winning the historic gold medal with Austrian favourite and 2011 world champion Daniela Iraschko-Stolz second. France`s Coline Mattel took the bronze.
In both rounds, Takanashi was dogged by tail winds which reduced the buoyancy of jumpers, while her landings were mediocre, costing her points for style.
The World Cup will resume with two events at Rasnov, Romania, in early March.
