London: Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has been named the top trending football topic of 2013, according to reports.

According to Metro.co.uk, the controversial striker scored top marks in Twitter`s review of the year, which includes details of how many times he was mentioned on the social networking site. Suarez leads the way from the hashtag #LFC, meaning plenty were probably talking about his scoring exploits for the Anfield club this season, the report said. Swansea and Aston Villa come in third and fourth, while Liverpool`s dominance of Twitter returns, with the word ` Liverpool` taking fifth place, the report added. The retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson and the hashtag #ThankYouSirAlex also features, as does #TransferDeadlineDay, showing that deadline day is not just about Sky Sports News anymore, the report further said.
