Ranchi: Indian Cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni will be the guest of honour at the 34th National Game to be held here from February 12 to 26.
Dhoni is expected to grace to be present during the inauguration on February 12.
Sudesh Mahato, the Deputy Chief Minister and the Sports Minister of Jharkhand, told reporters in an interview that the state government has invited Dhoni to grace the event either during the inauguration or the closing ceremony and it is expected that he will be attending the inaugural ceremony of the games.
"Dhoni is from Ranchi and he is the son of the soil. He has given his consent and most probably he will be an added attraction at the inaugural ceremony of the National Games," Mahato said.
The Indian Cricket team, which is currently on a tour of South Africa will return January 23 after playing its fifth and final one dayer at Centurian.
He said that the state government is planning to invite President of India Pratibha Devi Singh Patil to inaugurate the games and the Prime Minister of India Dr Manmohan Singh for the closure ceremony.
"In all 24 events will be organised in which 7063 players, 862 team officials, 1552 technical support officials and 490 local officials will attend," Mahato said.
The organizing secretary of the National Games Organizing Committee SM Hashmi said, "all the preparations for the 34th National Games are in place and the Jharkhand Olympic Association is ready to welcome the players and officials from all over the country.
