Johannesburg: South African cricketer Herschelle Gibbs was reportedly barred from entering a Perth nightclub because of his tattoos at the weekend.
According to perthnow.com.au, the Perth Scorchers opener, who belted a game-high 71 off just 46 balls to steer the WA side into the T20 Big Bash final, was unable to celebrate with his team-mates at Ginger nightclub in Mt Lawley after being refused entry. Gibbs took to his Twitter account to comment on the incident. “Had a first last night while all the lads of the Scorchers celebrated at a bar called Ginger, I wasn’t allowed in becos (sic) of my tattoos,” Sport24 quoted Gibbs as writing. The nightclub’s website states it wants patrons to “party well and dress well” and outlines “no visible tattoos or club colours allowed”. The 37-year-old sportsman’s tattoos include an inking of a cross on his forearm and barbed wire on his upper arm. ANI
