Nehra, Sharma attend final of Tihar`s cricket tournament
New Delhi: Cricketers Ashish Nehra and Ishant Sharma on Thursday visited Tihar Prisons to motivate inmates who participated in the Jail`s winter cricket tournament.
An annual fixture, the final match of the inter-jail winter cricket tournament was played between teams which comprised of inmates of Jail No 1 and 2.
`Tihar Olympics`, the inter-jail sports tournament, are held at Tihar for the past one decade. Celebrities are invited to attend the cricket finals.
The team led by Santosh Singh, the main accused in the Priyadarshini Matoo case, lost the match by one run.
"Inmates of Jail number 1 won the match. While team of jail number two scored 170 runs, Jail number 1 won the trophy by achieving the target in 16.2 overs," Spokesperson of Tihar Prisons, Sunil Gupta said.
Nehra and Sharma cheered the inmates from the sidelines during the match, he said, adding that both the cricketers were impressed with the facilities inside the jail.
"Nehra said that he had a completely different idea about jails. The ongoing welfare plans being carried out for inmates, the discipline maintained by prisoners, the greenery inside the jail, all was an eye opener for them," Gupta said.
