Nagpur: The Australia and the New Zealand players will observre a minute’s silence in memory of earthquake victims before the start of their Group A World Cup match here on Friday.
A 6.3-magnitude earthquake hit the New Zealand city of Christchurch on Tuesday, in which 98 people have lost their lives so far.
“It’s an extremely sad what happened in Christchurch. I am very close to a couple of New Zealand guys and on Thursday we spoke to them at the team hotel. I have come to know that their families are safe,” Ponting told the mediapersons at a press conference on Thursday.
“I will speak to Dan (Vettori) on Friday and see if we can observe a minute’s silence in the memory of those who lost their lives. We as Australian cricket team would like to show respect to those who lost their lives. We are neighbours and these are small little things we can do as national cricket teams,” he said.
