Sardar Singh rejects sexual harassment allegations, says was never engaged

New Delhi: Reacting to the allegations of sexual harassment put against him by an international hockey player, Indian hockey skipper Sardar Singh refuted all charges saying he was never engaged to the complainant Ashpal Bhogal.

Speaking to reporters, Sardar said that he played a hockey match yesterday night in the Hockey India League (HIL) and he has another one tomorrow, so he will get back to answering all the questions after looking into the matter.

The Indian skipper agreed that the allegations were very serious and clearly denied being engaged to Bhogal - a British citizen and a hockey player herself, who filed a complaint at the Koom Kalan police station at Sri Bhaini Shaib in Ludhiana on Tuesday.

The girl said that she was engaged to Sardar for four years and he mentally and physically harassed her. She also said that after a four-year relationship, Sardar now refused to marry her and was also not picking her calls.

Ashpal, who was born in England, was the first British Asian woman to represent England in hockey in 2010 as part of junior women's hockey team and plays club hockey in the Investec Women's Premier League for Beeston hockey club.

The duo is reportedly said to have met during the 2012 London Olympics, where India had finished last.
