In what would be one of the greatest moment for Indian tennis fans, 17-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer is confirmed to play in the Mahesh Bhupathi-promoted International Tennis Premier League (ITPL).

New Delhi: In what would be one of the greatest moment for Indian tennis fans, 17-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer is confirmed to play in the Mahesh Bhupathi-promoted International Tennis Premier League (ITPL).

The Swiss legend has replaced Rafael Nadal for the Indian Aces team. Nadal has withdrawn from the tournament due to injury.

Bhupathi confirmed the news through his official account on micro-blogging site Twitter.

Other big names who will play for the Indian Aces are Pete Sampras, Gael Monfils, Ana Ivanovic and Fabrice Santoro. Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna are the two Indian players in the squad. World No. 1 Novak Djokovic and women’s World No. 1 Serena Williams will also be present, playing for U.A.E. Falcons and Singapore Lions respectively.

Other world class players who will be a part of the league are Andy Murray, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Maria Sharapova, Eugenie Bouchard and Lleyton Hewitt. The league is scheduled to be played across four locations. Philippines will kick off proceedings, followed by Singapore, India and U.A.E. The India leg will be held from 6th to 8th December 2014 in Delhi.

Bollywood actress Lara Dutta, who is also the wife of Mahesh Bhupathi, also confirmed the news through her official account on social micro-blogging site Twitter.
