`Patchy` Murray admits `played poorly` following 4th-round defeat at Indian Wells

Johannesburg: Wimbledon champion Andy Murray admitted that his performance was `patchy` and he played `poor tennis` on Wednesday following his three-set defeat by Canadian Milos Raonic in the fourth round at Indian Wells.

The British No.1 and world no.6, who is seeded fifth in the first ATP Masters of the year, succumbed 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 in the game amid a plethora of unforced errors. According to Sport24, the Scot admitted that he played poorly given that he got broken two consecutive times in the same situation, adding that he is disappointed that he missed easy shots despite coming in at the California tournament with confidence of feeling match-fit. The report mentioned that the Scot, who has yet to reach a final since having back surgery in September, had to dig deep in each of his first two matches here, losing the first set against both Lukas Rosol and Jiri Vesely. Stating that he had a patchy game, Murray said that any lapses are more costly against a player like the 10th-seeded Raonic as the Canadian can win so many easy points with his serve, adding that he will try to turn things around at the Miami Masters starting next week. With his back feeling fine, Murray mused that such a sudden drop in form at the crucial point of the match was due to something more intangible.
