Andy Murray clarifies his comments on Gala Leon 's appointment

Paris: Top British tennis star Andy Murray has said that his comment supporting Spain's decision to appoint their first female Davis Cup captain was criticised because the Spanish federation handled it horribly.

"I have spoken to the players about it, and it sounds like the way it (my comments on the appointment) was handled was horrible... That's how it sounds," Xinhua quoted the said the world number eight, who himself is coached by a woman, as saying.

Murray, who chose Frenchwoman Amelie Mauresmo as his coach after splitting with Ivan Lendl earlier this year, tweeted his excitement when Leon was named the Spanish Davis Cup captain to succeed Carlos Moya in September.

However, the two-time Grand Slam winner got a lot of complaints for his remarks from Spanish men like Rafa Nadal's uncle Toni Nadal who said Leon's appointment could create problems in the dressing room.
